Respite care for up to 50 weeks of the year

The opening of the new Dame Hannah Rogers Trust`s Respite Unit in 2006 means that the Trust can now provide much needed respite care to hundreds of disabled youngsters, their families and carers for up to 50 weeks of the year.  As well as answering the increasing demand from current students and their families, the new respite unit is providing vital breaks for young people with disabilities and their families from across the South West.

The Dame Hannah Rogers Trust Respite Unit, which is a registered Children`s Home, provides the very best standards of care and support as well as an exciting range of leisure and sporting activities such as ice-skating and visits to the local Speedway track. Every young person is entitled to have friends and a social life, but realistically this is very difficult for young people with profound physical disabilities to achieve in an everyday family home environment.

Dame Hannah Rogers Trust understands that families find caring for a disabled child an increasingly difficult task, as the child grows and parents grow older too. Additionally, young people need more in terms of developing their independence and social life as well as experiencing new activities.

When staying in our respite unit, young people are encouraged to participate in the life of the wider local community, develop life skills and grow to achieve their full potential in terms of independence and confidence.
