Nursing
24 hour nursing care is available to meet the complex medical needs of all young people being cared for in the school, specialist 19+ unit and respite centre.
All nursing staff are qualified level 1 nurses and are supported by consultants, general practitioners and community paediatric nurses. They also have specialist knowledge of epilepsy, gastrostomies, trachiostomies and complementary therapies. Providing nursing care seven days a week enables young people who have very complex medical needs to access all of the exciting activities during school and social time, ensuring an holistic approach is maintained.
A weekly G.P. surgery is available on site, providing an opportunity to review treatments and medication, while assessing on-going health needs. Individual care plans are developed, monitored and updated to ensure that each young person can access every opportunity available.
Young people who have complex medical needs benefit greatly from receiving daily nursing care during term time. This holistic approach promotes good health, which in turn enables the young person to participate as fully as possible in their education and recreational opportunities.
