Dame Hannah Rogers Trust's Further Education for 16 - 19 year olds

Exploring Independence through life skills and continuing education

The aim of the Dame Hannah Rogers Trust`s Further Education department is to enable students with profound physical disabilities and associated learning difficulties to achieve their full potential whilst living within a caring and supportive environment.

While actively promoting a student`s adult status, the Further Education team encourage inclusion in suitable and appropriate educational activities. Basic skills, life skills and independence training programmes facilitate the development of essential skills for empowerment and self-advocacy. Students are encouraged to make their own choices and decisions and are given frequent opportunities to put their life skills to the test in the wider community through shopping trips and outings.

Dame Hannah Rogers Trust`s experienced Further Education team have extensive I.T. expertise and utilise a full range of specialised and adapted equipment to ensure that each student is able to access the curriculum to the best of their ability. Some students have profound and multiple learning difficulties and they follow a sensory based developmental curriculum, with many of them receiving one-to-one support.

The residential experience is an integral part of student life providing the optimum environment for the development of essential life skills. The waking hours curriculum ensures that learning opportunities for each student continue beyond the end of the formal school day.

This integrated therapeutic approach provided by our multi-disciplinary team ensures that each student receives a planned programme to meet their physical and communication needs within their individual educational programme. Additionally, students and their families are encouraged to plan for the future supported by experienced staff and local advisors.
